About Kylie

Kylie Barrows Eventing Showjumping

Welcome to Oak View Farm! Kylie Barrows is our primary horseback riding instructor and a horse trainer in the Chapel Hill, NC area. She has many years experience competing in dressage and eventing. Training and lessons are offered to horses and riders of all experience levels, with an emphasis on kind and correct training principles, safety, and fun.

Kylie got her first pony when she was seven years old. She was lucky enough to grow up with her ponies in the backyard and rode every day. She participated in both 4-H and Pony Club when she was growing up, and eventually received her “A” pony club rating at the age of 21, from Eno Triangle Pony Club. Kylie started giving riding lessons at the age of fifteen years old, and has not stopped since. It has always been her goal to be the best trainer and competitor she could be, but she also thought it wise to get a college education in case that didn’t work out. After graduating from Carolina Friends School, she went on to UNC Chapel Hill and graduated with a double major in Biology and Psychology. She always continued to teach and train horses while she was a student at UNC. She bought Quantum Leap, or “Ascot,” while in college, an unbroken Thoroughbred, with the goal of competing at the Preliminary level of eventing. After completing college, Barrows Eventing was born. She moved out of the teeny, tiny apartment on Franklin Street, into Oak View Farm where she now resides and works out of in Chapel Hill. She and Ascot competed very successfully at the Preliminary level, and Kylie now is focused on training horses and coaching her students to advance.

Kylie recently bought Panda, one of her current lesson horses, to help expand her ever-growing lesson program. She’s still very involved with the local Pony Club and was certified as a National Examiner in 2014. Kylie has trained with many top professionals, including Jim Kofford, David O’Brien, Buck Davidson, Joy Horn-Pharr, and Nanci Lindroth. She is a sought after trainer and a successful competitor.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Within ten minutes of watching Kylie ride Elvis I could tell she was the trainer I was looking for. There is not a trainer in the area that I have worked with that I trust more than Kylie Barrows with my horse and with myself.  She is honest, safe, and has the best interest of the horse and owner in mind at all times. She is an amazing horsewoman and Elvis and I thank our lucky stars that she was suggested to us as a trainer.

“A fellow boarder recommended Kylie to me and I’m so glad. My horse was previously with another trainer whom I never truly felt connected with my horse. The difference in rideability in such a short time is astounding to me – I’ve already recommended Kylie to two other riders.”
